A storm shipwrecks him on his journey, however, and he finds himself on a peaceful island where he awakens tangled in seaweed, caked with brine. Upon regaining consciousness, he witnesses the idyllic scene of a girl playing ball with her serving maids.This girl, Nausicaa, is inspired by Athena to have courage; unlike her maids who run in fear of the naked stranger, she stays to help Odysseus. Ancient Greek shores were dangerous places for women. Pirates frequently roamed these shores looking for riches to be had, and women to abduct. Odysseus, always crafty with words, compares the girl to the goddesses Artemis. Such a comparison is meant to remove fear from her heart, as Artemis is a virgin goddess known to harm any man who threatens her virginity (think of the story of Actaeon and Diana-Diana is Artemis\' Roman name). Thereby Odysseus is asserting that he does not dare harm the young princess. Nausicaa leads Odysseus to her palace where he is received as a guest by the king. She suggests that she would be willing to marry Odysseus, and her father the king proposes this as well. Although this offer of the young princess seems innocent enough, it is a threat to Odysseus\' homecoming. His fate demands that he return to Ithaca to reunite with his wife Penelope and his son, and kill the suitors who are threatening his kingdom. Therefore, in its own innocent way, the seduction of Nausicaa is as dangerous to the fate of Odysseus and the outcome of "The Odyssey" as the seductions of bolder, more powerful women, such as Calypso and Circe.';

 KW_PRD[KW_PRD.length] = 'The crafty king of Ithaca and hero of the OdysseyHis name in Ancient Greek is a variation on the word for \'pain\', for in most of his interactions with others, Odysseus either gives or receives pain -- emotional or physical. He is a crafty liar, a trait appreciated by the Greeks, but disapproved of by the Romans (Dante, a descendant of the Romans, put Odysseus in hell in his "Divine Comedy" for the Greek hero\'s enjoyment of crafting falsehoods).Odysseus was a great adventurer and wanderer, and most of his time was spent either fighting warriors or resisting seductive women. His adventures in "The Odyssey" were mostly told in the third person, by the bard, and concern killing the suitors who were courting his wife Penelope, among other feats. But, strangely enough, the stories told when he killed fantastic monsters, visited the underworld, and lost all his crew "due to their own greed" were told in the first-person. Is there a relationship between his first-person accounts of heroic altruism and superhuman deeds, and his tendency to lie? Scholars debate this. In any case, his lying made him a favorite of Athena, the goddess who herself was a divine fabricator of tales, and she helped him on his travels.';

If a man dies suddenly, he is said to have been shot by the arrows of Apollo (just as women\'s sudden death is caused by Artemis). Apollo is a young god, portrayed at the height of masculine youth and beauty. His father is Zeus, and his mother is Leto (she has no real purpose in mythology other than to be the mother of Apollo and Artemis). Apollo is one of the most important Gods. He rules over the oracle at Delphi (a position he took when he slew the monstrous serpent "Python". Priests who made prophecies at this oracle were said to be inspired by Apollo. Apollo is said to have ruled over this temple during the nine warmest months of the year. During the three cold months, he left the temple to his divine half-brother Dionysus.';

The task of capturing Cerberus alive, without using weapons, was the final "Labour" assigned to Heracles. Once Heracles learned how to enter and exit the underworld alive, he made the voyage, found the god Hades, and asked him permission to bring Cerberus to the surface, which Hades agreed to if Heracles could overpower the beast without using weapons. Heracles defeated Cerberus and proceeded to sling the beast over his back, dragging it out of the underworld through a cavern entrance in the Peloponnese and bringing it to King Eurystheus. The king was so frightened of the beast that he jumped into a large jar, and begged Heracles to return the dog to the underworld, which Heracles did on condition that he would be released from his Labours. The word Cerberus is often used in modern times. An example: a doorman at a posh nightclubs is often called a "Cerberus" to express the difficulty one has in crossing his path to enter the club.';

He would fall for a full day and land in the sea, later to be rescued by a band of nymphs. They brought him to Lemnos where he would be nursed to health.He would grow to become a master of metalworking, stonemasonry, and sculpture-building his palace under a volcano and crafting a magic throne that would entrap Hera when she sat upon it. The gods of Olympus pleaded for him to release the prisoner Hera but he refused. The god of the vine, Dionysus, visited the palace and with Hephaestus they would drink the noble juice. Dionysus draped a drunken Hephaestus over the hump of a mule and carried him back to the top of Mount Olympus. In exchange for a beautiful wife, he would agree to release Hera. The beautiful wife, Aphrodite.The adulterous Aphrodite was caught in the act by Hephaestus who would wrap them in inescapable chains and bring them before the assembly of gods who would roar with laughter about the indiscretion and let Aphrodite and her lover Ares go free-not the reaction Hephaestus was looking for. He turned to his metal working, crafting the weapons and armor for the other Gods and Heroes, and the thunderbolt and scepter for Zeus. Zeus would need strong tools, as he was ready to launch a new war of sorts on his rival, Prometheus, who had band of mortal men. Under Zeus\' order, Hephaestus would create the first woman from clay who would release a jar of supernatural evils on humankind-her name was Pandora. Hephaestus carried a hammer, tongs and an anvil and was later worshiped as a Roman God, the Romans naming him Vulcan (Volcanus) or the "God of Fire." (-Editors, Literature Weekly)';

 KW_PRD[KW_PRD.length] = 'History may have trouble fitting a square peg into a round hole, but it has no problem, changing a round object into a square one. What we think of as Pandora\'s box is actually a jar (Greek word "pithos"). According to Hesiod, Pandora, like Eve, was the first woman ever created. She was very beautiful, extremely clever and a little too curious. When she was given a large jar that contained all the world\'s evils, plagues, sorrows (as well as hope), she got very excited and opened the jar-letting out all of those terrible things in the world. Only \'Hope\' stayed under the lid of the jar. The jar didn\'t become a box until the 16th century when Erasmus of Rotterdam translated the myth of Pandora into Latin. Nobody\'s perfect, and the intelligent Erasmus made a slip of the pen and the "pithos" became the Latin "pyxis"-meaning "box." The mistranslation has endured ever since and has inspired countless pieces of art that show Pandora with a box instead of a jar.';
